Frequently asked questions

How are headings found?

From text that is larger or bolder than the body text. Check the preview; using bookmarks gives exact results when the PDF has them.

Are the entries clickable?

Yes. Each line links to its page. You can also add matching bookmarks for the reader’s sidebar.

Are the page numbers right after the contents page is added?

Yes. The numbers count the new contents pages, so each entry points to the correct page.

Does it work on scanned PDFs?

Scans have no text to find headings in. Run OCR first, or add bookmarks by hand and build from those.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser, so your files stay on your device and are never sent anywhere. It even works with the internet switched off.
